DREAMING NO SMALL DREAMS
After
confidently reaching the impressive goal three years early, Hampton's Board
of Trustees have increased the goal to $250 Million. The Campaign seeks to
maintain the academic, cultural and historical prominence Hampton has enjoyed
for more than a century.
This Campaign for Hampton is designed to preserve and strengthen
the overall quality of the university by enhancing the breadth and
depth of our academic programs. It is a campaign to preserve a rare
national resource, one that is rich in history and destined to play
an even greater role in the future development of talented young men
and women who will assume responsible leadership roles in their professions
and in their communities.
Hampton University stresses the importance of effective
teaching and scholarly research, with the education of our students
as the focal point of all activities. The University also provides
support services that include academic, personal, and career counseling,
as well as classes to improve study skills. Hampton University's endowment
reinforces the institution's efforts to ensure that no qualified student
is turned away because he or she lacks funds.
The
new three-story, 155,000 square-foot Student Center is built on the
corner of Marshall Avenue and Soldier's Home Road.
"It is really a great day for us," said HU President William R. Harvey at
the ground breaking ceremony.
"This project came about by our listening to the students. They wanted to
have more things to do on campus, and we provided it for them."
